Brent Hiner is a former Rockford High School lacrosse coach who begins his third year as Michigan State’s defensive coach. Hiner will direct the entire Spartan defense this year with the departure of longtime defensive assistant Emily Pastula, who moved to northern California to pursue a coaching opportunity this past summer. Hiner is no stranger to women’s lacrosse, serving as a valuable member of the Rockford lacrosse program, where he held numerous positions during his tenure for the Rams from 2005-2011. The likeable Lansing native, Hiner graduated from Lansing Eastern, will handle defensive coordination and draws for the Spartans in 2014. He said as a student of the game, he would continue to expand and incorporate strategies and tactics used in successful collegiate programs to get the Spartans even more successful on the defensive end of the field this year.
